⛰️Seven Rila Lakes: The Throne of Rila

• Immerse yourself in the magic of Bulgaria’s most iconic glacial lake cirque! The Seven Rila Lakes are arranged in a stepped formation in the heart of the Rila Mountains, and each lake carries a name reflecting its unique shape and character. We offer two options for this hike – a classic cable car route for more comfort, or an adventurous trekking route for a true mountaineering challenge.

  📍 Route overview

  We start from Pionerska Hut. Here the group splits based on preference:

  • “Comfort” option (with cable car): We take the chairlift up to Rila Lakes Hut, from where we begin the circular hike around the Lower Lake, Fish Lake, Trefoil, Twin Lake, Kidney, Eye, and Tear.

  • “Adventure” option (without cable car): We hike through ancient forests, gradually gaining elevation step by step until we reach the plateau, where we join the main group.

  At the end of the day, everyone gathers at Lake Peak, offering a panoramic view of all seven lakes at once.

  • Duration: 5–6 hours (with cable car) / 8–9 hours (without cable car)

  • Elevation gain: +500 m (with cable car) / +1050 m (without cable car)

  • Difficulty: Moderate (with cable car) / High (without cable car)

  • Starting point: Pionerska Hut (above Panichishte)

  💸 Price of the hike

  • Adult price: €30 per person

  • Children up to 12 years: €15

  • Note: For the cable car option, the ticket (~€15 round trip) is paid separately at the station.

  🎒 What to bring

  • Footwear: Comfortable sneakers (for cable car option) or sturdy hiking boots (mandatory for trekking option)

  • Clothing: Windproof jacket or light coat – at 2500 m altitude the wind is constant

  • Sun protection: SPF 50+ sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses

  • Trekking poles: Highly recommended, especially for the hiking option

  • Water & food: At least 1.5–2 L of water and a light lunch (sandwiches, nuts)
