• ⛰️ Mount Golyam Perelik: The Roof of the Rhodope Mountains

  Climb the highest point of the Rhodope Mountains (2191 m) and immerse yourself in the magic of the “mountain of a thousand eyes”! Golyam Perelik offers endless horizons, the scent of pine forests, and a hike through some of the most beautiful high-mountain meadows in Bulgaria. With a professional guide, this is an easy and enjoyable experience for anyone who loves nature.

  📍 Route overview

  We start the hike from the area near Perelik Hut. The path gently winds through ancient conifer forests until we reach the wide alpine plateau. Here the terrain opens up, revealing panoramic views stretching all the way to Greece, and in clear weather even Rila and Pirin in the distance.

  Since the actual highest point is a restricted military area, we reach the panoramic viewpoint near the chapel of St. Kirik and Julita, which offers the best views of the region. After enjoying the scenery, we continue to the highest accessible point and then return back to the hut.

  • Duration: ~3–4 hours (total)

  • Elevation gain: approx. +350 m

  • Difficulty: Easy (suitable for children and beginners)

  • Starting point: Parking near Perelik Hut (above Smolyan town)

  • Comfortable hiking shoes (mostly grassy terrain with some rocky sections)
